Love & Loss
Danielle Donaldson
There is a comfort in the strength of love; ‘Twill make a thing endurable, which else would overset the brain, or break the heart.
Arguably, Love is the most powerful force on the earth. It brings people together, creates families, leads to births of the next generation and can change the course of time. On the other hand, it can lead to grief, despair and destruction when love goes wrong. When those that love each other are separated by death, the pain can be unbearable. Take a look at the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Eurydice dies and is taken to the "afterlife" of Hades. Her lover Orpheus goes to Hades to retrieve his love and bring her back to life.
In RECOVERY ROAD, Catalina lost her husband in a fiery crash. She descends into the darkness of her grief. She has lost the love of her life, the future looks dim without her life partner, and everything that they had planned to accomplish is now gone in the flash of an eye. She doesn't go into the afterlife after her love, but she can't seem to move forward with her life. She struggles greatly with moving on...until she realizes her feelings for her late husband's best friend, Evan, and allows herself to open back up.
Love and loss can drive us to the ends of the earth. It can drive some of us back in time. It can stall us in the moment we're in. Yet, the world keeps spinning. Days and years keep on going by. We must make the decision on how we let love and loss affect us.
